Man City wins the UEFA Super Cup after defeating Sevilla on penalties.
Manchester became the 25th different winner of the UEFA Super Cup in 2023 when they defeated Sevilla on penalties.
In a historic first appearance at the UEFA Super Cup, Manchester City clinched victory over Sevilla with a 5-4 win in a tense penalty shootout. This triumph adds yet another trophy to the extensive collection amassed under the leadership of manager Pep Guardiola.
Following a 1-1 draw during the regulation time, and with nine successful penalties in the shootout, Nemanja Gudelj’s unfortunate attempt striking the crossbar handed City the win within the confines of Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis.
This victory marks the 15th trophy secured by Manchester City under Guardiola’s tenure, which began in 2016. The win also serves as redemption for their loss to Arsenal in a penalty shootout during the Community Shield, just ten days prior.
The Super Cup is an annual match between the Champions League (City) and Europa League (Sevilla) champions from the last season.
