Mikel Arteta Is Sent A Warning Ahead Of The Start Of The New Season: As Arsenal’s momentum builds for the 2023-24 season, BeIN Sports presenter Richard Keys has some advice for their manager, Mikel Arteta. Keys suggests that Arteta refine his touchline demeanour.
Mikel Arteta, 41, is gearing up for his fourth season leading Arsenal. Since his appointment in December 2019, he has undoubtedly made an impact. Last season, the Gunners nearly clinched the Premier League title, narrowly missing out to Manchester City by a mere five points.
The new season started with a bang for Arsenal. They recently clinched a win against Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 6. With the match ending 1-1 in normal time, Arsenal dominated the penalty shoot-out, securing a 4-1 victory.
Naturally, Arteta is optimistic about Arsenal’s prospects this season. He hopes to elevate the team even further. But Keys believes there’s one area where Arteta needs to improve: his touchline behaviour.
In a post on his personal blog, Keys commented on Arteta’s touchline antics. He pointed out, “His behaviour in the technical area is annoying – and dangerous.” He continued, emphasizing that the technical area’s boundaries exist for a reason. While Arteta’s enthusiasm is understandable, Keys advises him to confine it to the designated area.

Keys further elaborated, “Let the world know you don’t trust your players to do the right things by waving your arms about like a broken windmill all game.” However, he added a crucial caveat: “Stay within your own technical area.”

This isn’t merely a superficial observation. During the recent Community Shield match, Arteta’s name made it into the referee’s book. His transgression? Stepping outside the technical area to protest a decision against Manchester City’s Rodri.
While Arteta’s passion and drive for Arsenal are commendable, adhering to on-pitch protocols is essential. As the Gunners chase Premier League glory, every detail, even touchline behaviour, counts. After all, as Keys wisely remarked, “Stay calm – and carry on.”
