In a potentially game-changing move, FC Barcelona are reportedly eyeing three Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players who find themselves outside Luis Enrique’s 2023-24 season plans. The Catalan giants have set their crosshairs on Juan Bernat, Nordi Mukiele, and Renato Sanches as they strive to strengthen their squad.
According to a report by El Nacional, Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, has specifically requested negotiations with PSG regarding this trio. Despite Barcelona’s ongoing financial tribulations, Xavi is optimistic that the club can afford these players, given their current standing in Paris.
With finances tight, Barcelona have yet to make a big splash in this summer’s transfer market. Yet, they have demonstrated their acumen with economic dealings, securing Oriol Romeu from Girona at a bargain price and welcoming Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer.
Now, Xavi is advocating for three more additions to complete his desired squad. Juan Bernat, the experienced left-back, tops his wishlist. With Jordi Alba’s exit, Xavi envisions Bernat as the perfect support for young starlet Alejandro Balde.
Furthermore, Xavi perceives Nordi Mukiele as a valuable addition to the right-back position. Mukiele, currently not a first-choice pick at PSG, could potentially revive his career at Barcelona.
Renato Sanches is the final piece of Xavi’s desired triumvirate. Despite Sanches’ lacklustre spell at the Ligue 1 champions, Xavi remains confident in his potential to bolster Barcelona’s midfield.
Xavi asked Barcelona to sign three PSG players
In addition to these potential signings, Xavi also emphasized his desire for further recruitment as part of Barcelona’s rebuilding process. Although he acknowledged the board’s commendable efforts so far, he urged them to make more signings before the transfer window closes.
During a media interaction earlier this summer, Xavi stressed the need for financial prudence while pursuing new signings. He reassured fans and critics alike of his composure regarding the situation, highlighting the ample time remaining in the transfer window.
Interestingly, L’Equipe also reported on Monday that Barca is setting its sights on PSG star Kylian Mbappe. Reportedly, Barcelona is prepared to offer player exchanges to facilitate this ambitious acquisition, given their limited financial resources.
Under Xavi’s stewardship, Barcelona is boldly navigating the transfer market, focusing on both economical and strategic signings. If the Catalan club manages to secure these three PSG players, it could significantly strengthen their squad, potentially signalling a turning point in their rebuilding journey.
